Founder and Managing Investment Advisor
George has spent more than 30 years fine tuning his craft of investment portfolio management in order to manage your money with the most successful techniques and disciplines available.
After graduating from Boys Latin School in Baltimore, Maryland, and Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, he spent several years in New York on Wall Street with Merrill Lynch and Kidder Peabody obtaining the experience and expertise to understand the many nuances of the global financial markets and the investment securities bought and sold in these markets every day.
He started Matthai Capital Management, a registered investment advisory firm, in 1990 because he wanted to bring a more personalized and customized approach to his clients. Just like all investments are not the same, all investors are not the same, and he wanted to build and monitor investment portfolios that were uniquely designed for each client.
George is an avid reader of financial information and the sports page. He loves to follow some of the finest minds in the investment industry, while at the same time catching the latest news on his favorite teams: The Orioles, Ravens and Wizards. When not in the office, George loves to travel, spend time at the beach, and get in a round of golf.
George is a people person and loves to help in the community, as evidenced by his long-standing tenure with the Baltimore General Dispensary Foundation, a non-profit foundation created to provide medical assistance to the indigent in and around the Baltimore metropolitan area.
George wants to be more than just a “stockbroker” to his clients. He wants to be a trusted adviser that stands the test of time. Some of his clients have been with him decades and he has helped them navigate through many financial challenges that come at different stages of life. He is ready and excited to help you with the same!
Director of Client Services
Mark has spent more than 30 years learning the operational aspects of the investment industry and developing the technical skills necessary to keep an investment adviser’s office running smoothly.
Mark spent several years working for the Baltimore-based stock brokerage firm, Alex. Brown & Sons, before joining George in 1992 to help him build Matthai Capital Management.
Mark’s focus is on “service.” More precisely, responding promptly, efficiently and accurately to the various requests and needs of each and every client. It might be the need for a recurring electronic distribution from an IRA account, a realized capital gain/loss schedule at tax time for your accountant, or any number of service-related requests. It doesn’t matter what the request, Mark is dedicated to providing you with answers and solutions to whatever account-related issues that might come up.
Like George, Mark also loves sports. In fact, one of his favorite past times is watching one or more of his eight children participate in a game of soccer, basketball, baseball or field hockey. He is also a grandfather, though he feels he is much too young for such a title. The challenges of a large family have uniquely equipped him to understand what it takes to effectively meet the needs of multiple individuals simultaneously. He looks forward to putting this experience to work for you!
